I believe in being up-front with my pricing scheme. If you use the right tools, it doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg and take someone hundreds of hours to make a single song. There is, however, a rather wide variety of work that is done for sound design and composition and depending on exactly what you need, the price falls somewhere in the following ranges.

Chiptune/Electronic Tracks

Basic electronic, video game music and chiptune styled tracks cost $200 per 1:30-2:00 in-game loop. Menu and title themes cost a little bit less depending on what you need.

Orchestral and Ethnic Instrument Tracks

Orchestral and ethnic tracks take a lot longer to produce than a standard electronic track or chiptune song. For this reason, I charge between $250-$350 per 1:30-2:00 minute in-game track.

Thematic Variations

Building a set of songs with a common melody or theme goes at the same costs per their style but I give you a bulk discount since I usually do not have to compose quite as much. It depends on the style and how much you want to stray from the main theme in various tracks.

Sound Effects

Sound effects include four kinds of resources. They are priced individually between $15.00 and $20.00 per sound. This include reasonable revisions. You usually end up paying less than if you established an hourly rate with a sound engineer and went through the regular back and forth.

Synthesized Sounds – Synthesized sounds are created with musical instruments and sound generators. They’re great for old school gaming feel and usually quite cheap.

Field Recordings – On occasion, we’ll record audio from scratch for your project. This usually costs a bit more.

Stock Sounds – Sometimes, you’ll need a sound that cannot easily be recorded or generated. For example, a lion roaring is not easily recorded (safely anyways) nor can it be generated realistically with synthesizers. For this reason, we’ll sometimes purchase stock sounds and blend them with unique elements to create a sound for your game. The costs for stock sounds will be passed on to the client. All stock sounds used are from royalty free, high quality sources.

Voice Talent – We’ll regularly hire from a pool of talented voice talent that we use regularly to create grunts, groans, yells, shouts and many other sounds. These costs are usually minimal but will be passed on to the client.
